Master’s Degree
A major benefit of the NYC Teaching Collaborative is that the cost of master's degree coursework for Partner Teachers is partially subsidized.
We know that great teachers are life-long learners. Our Partner Teachers embody this by completing master's degree coursework customized to meet the needs of new teachers, giving them the tools, resources, and foundation of an effective educator.
While completing their coursework, Partner Teachers will teach under a New York State Transitional B Certificate, which requires that they be enrolled in master’s coursework while teaching. Our university partners change from year to year. Last year, our list of partner universities included:
- Brooklyn College
- Bank Street College of Education
- City College
- Fordham University
- Hunter College
- Lehman College
- Pace University
- Relay Graduate School of Education
- St. John's University
- Touro College
Upon successful completion of their master’s degree, Partner Teachers will be able to apply for their New York State Initial Certificate. Partner Teachers generally complete a master's degree in education in two to three years, depending on their assigned subject area, university, and previous academic coursework.
